Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME) has fitted a first high manganese steel LNG fuel tank into an LNG dual-fuelled container ship at DSME yard Geoje, South Korea on November 1st 2022. The new type-B rectangular tank was fitted to a 24,000-teu boxship — one of 12 ultra-large containership newbuildings being built for German liner giant Hapag-Lloyd — in what the shipbuilder is claiming is a “world first”. Ti Korea installed the cryogenic insulation TiG EPS Panel system to the tank in what is a worlds first for high manganese steel.
